What does one do when he/she is betrayed by those he/she holds dear? Does one become bitter and disillusioned? Is it possible to remain optimistic about life? Bradley and Lavender come from different socio-economic backgrounds. Bradley’s family is wealthy while Lavender comes from the ashes of poverty. But they are both betrayed by their families and their lovers because jealousy, ego and the darker traits of the human race do not respect financial boundaries.
Bradley was cast out of his family because of marrying Cess, his brother Philip’s house help. Unknown to him, Philip had been carrying on an affair with Cess. As Bradley learned later, his first born child was actually his brother’s biological daughter. But for thirteen years Bradley had no idea, as he reconstructed his life with his wife, away from his wealthy and powerful family.
Lavender, on the other hand, was kicked out of her home by her mother and siblings because of joblessness. She was arrested three months later for selling illicit brew, but the OCS liked her and released her on condition that she would become his lover. She agreed.
When Philip’s wife Hannah dies mysteriously, and he decides to publicly reclaim his former mistress, Cess, who now happens to be his brother’s wife. He cooks a plot to have Bradley killed, and the man tasked with the murder is Lavender’s boyfriend, the OCS, who is also the father of her second son Mark. Against her wish, Lavender is given a role in the murder of an innocent man.
