Kendi has been living with Mutwiri for fifteen years. When she joined his family, his then wife Kananu, who was her aunt, had promised to take her to the university. But then Kananu died before Kendi joined university, and Mutwiri manipulated her into having sex with him. He urged her to move into the master bedroom and take her aunt’s place. Kendi became Mutwiri’s wife, but he started treating her like a servant, especially after the birth of their son.
Now, fifteen years later, Mutwiri kicks her out of the home so that he can marry a younger woman. She has no education and no skill. Her admission to Kenyatta University is long forgotten. In short, she has been used for fifteen years, and then thrown out like garbage. And when she protests, Mutwiri sends a gang of thugs to kill her.
